Korean Acupuncture has unique applications yet it is the subcategory of acupuncture. Korean Acupuncture gives emphasis on the five elements theory and sees ones body type and formation. But mostly Korean acupuncturists focus on hand therapy.
During the Joseon dynasty this acupuncture was commonly used in Korea. Ancient practitioners would travel in the country from place to place to treat royal to peasant and use stones or needles made from copper or silver. The Korean Acupuncture is somewhat different from Chinese methods and the Korean acupuncturists go about diagnosing a person’s problems. Saam acupuncture and Taeguek acupuncture are the two main schools of acupuncture in Korea.
But in the20th century so many people got attracted towards it and as the growth of Korean hand acupuncture, also known as Korean Hand Therapy. As the Korean Hand Therapy, the whole body is represented in your hand and rest of your body can be affected by stimulating specific points on your hands. In Korean hand acupuncture, there are 14 meridians and over 300 different points on your hand that relate to your internal organs. Dr. Tae Woo Yoo between 1971 and 1975 developed this acupuncture method.
Yet Korean acupuncture is based on hand and you can treat yourself knowing the acupressure points on your hands. You can also treat others once you learn but this treatment is for simple cures such as for headaches and backaches and others minor problems. But if someone has some serious problem then they should consult a professional Korean acupuncture practitioner.
Usually needles are used in acupuncture therapy but Korean acupuncturists also use alternative techniques like moxibustion (warming acupuncture points with herbs), cupping (trapping warmed air against the skin with the aid of cups) and acupressure (placing pressure on the sensitive points rather than inserting needles). |
