Frozen shoulder cause pain and limited motion of the shoulder joint. Frozen shoulder is usually seen in middle aged people who have a history of shoulder injuries and it is mainly caused by inflammation of synovial tissue or thickening of synovial fluid. In the case of frozen shoulder one may feel severe pain, some cannot rotate the shoulder properly and it is very difficult to move the affected arm out and away from the body.
If it is diagnosed earlier then first reduce the inflammation and increase the range of motion. To treat it different methods have been devised, including anti-inflammatory drugs, ultrasound, heat, massage, and stretching and isometric exercises. Steroid injections and nerve blocks have also been used but effect of these therapies will be different from patient to patient.
There are so many data which show that frozen shoulder can be successfully treated but most of these data has not been of the randomized, controlled trial variety. On a small group of frozen shoulder patients using the RCT format compared the use of acupuncture to exercise The report published in the Hong Kong Medical Journal, tells that patients treated with acupuncture condition improve more than those patient who just use exercise so it is suggest that acupuncture can be useful where other therapies do not work. |
